Best things to do during Thanksgiving in New Orleans!

What’s up folks? I’m here to show you the best way to approach the upcoming holiday in New Orleans! So buckle up nerds, it’ll be a hoot!

Since 1852 opening day at the Fairgrounds Racetrack on Thanksgiving Day is a must do! Races start at 1:30pm sharp. Play the ponies and enjoy looking at all the fancy hats! People really style out for this one so bring your A-game! There’s always a massive feast, but, that’s been sold out for months so better luck next year. Cooking at home is best anyhow. This is THE THING TO DO Thanksgiving Day before family stuff. Check out the schedule here:

Bayou Classic Thanksgiving Day Parade 11/29

This parade starts at the Superdome and rolls to the French Market. It starts at 9:30am at N. Peters and Elysian Fields and ends on Loyola and Perdido. More info here:

This is a massive old-school rivalry between Southern University and Grambling State University that brings intense football fun to New Orleans each November at the Dome!

Now after the partying and feasting has all come to pass you’ll need a way to burn those extra calories and that undoubtedly sends you in our direction! Here at Nola Kayak Tours we head just a bit out of the city to paddle some really historically and culturally significant swamps right in NOLAS backyard. Our guides will not let you go without learning plenty of our waterways and their history and some of the challenges we are facing going forward in a coastal city that exists below sea level!
